I didn't take this photo. The tour guide offered to take photos for visitors. The temperature was 110ºF (45ºC) that day. When I handed him my camera, I did not realize he had taken some shots of me while I was walking to a place to pose. I didn't discover this revelation until I reviewed my photos after I had returned to the States.
I like these kinds of photos because I never know what people see when they look at me. They are extremely rare, unplanned, candid portrayals of my demeanor. The tour guide, I suppose, captured me in a moment of which I, myself, was unaware. My thoughts were still engulfed with the human atrocities that occurred over three centuries where I was standing.
